Scotty Trailer

(L-R: Barb, Sandy, Dotti, Rylee Joy & Robynne)

These past couple of weeks, Roby has been devoted to “Scotty," our 13.5 ft. trailer that was donated by Sandy & Barb.  “Scotty” is a 1984 Serro Scotty Sportsman Travel Trailer.   Since the trailer has a dry weight of 1610 pounds, our tow vehicle, the 1994 Purple Suburban, donated by Michele & Janis, needed a trailer brake.  Roby’s Dad, Bob Sapp, was kind enough to install the brake and lights… and fix the door, get the furnace running, change over the propane system to OPD, put on a new battery, a new ball hitch, and all the electrical for lights.  Then, just when he thought he was finished working on “Scotty,” Roby experienced a couple of floods while attempting to flush out the water system, discovering a leak in the hot water tank.  A new hot water tank was a $325 surprise, plus cost us a couple of days in leaving for California. But the good news is that Bob came through again and got the new hot water tank installed and the water system working perfectly, without any leaks!  Thanks, Dad!!!

Sure, it would have been nice to have a brand new trailer that didn’t need any work.  However, working on “Scotty” has been such good therapy for Roby, and it’s been a connector for Roby and her Dad.  Roby’s Dad may not have been able to verbalize his support for our Gay Into Straight America journey, but in his own way, by working on “Scotty,” he is supporting us on this mission.  He even accepted a “Gay Into Straight America” cap from Dotti recently!  Thanks, Dad… We love you!
