On September 20, 2006, “Gay Into Straight America” will conclude a year-long tour of America at Riverwalk Books in Chelan, Washington. The evening begins at 7:00 p.m. with travelers Dotti Berry and Roby Sapp. Local author Lars Clausen will accompany Dotti and Roby and autograph his new book, “Straight Into Gay America: My Unicycle Journey for Equal Rights.”
Dotti and Roby’s journey Gay Into Straight America, began September 11, 2005, and is a commitment to creating authentic connections with people who are “wrestling” with their understanding of (GLBT) gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons. Traveling with a small trailer, sharing meals and staying in people's homes, they are open to engaging hearts and minds. Being inclusive, they also avail themselves to those who hold firm beliefs about LGBT people. Additionally, they reach out to their own community of gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, questioning and ally persons, who, like some heterosexual persons, often don't have a foundation for understanding transgender and intersex persons.
Dotti and Roby state that the 10% of our population who is GLBT affect all 100% of our society. Every single person they’ve met on this trip has said they know a gay or lesbian, bisexual or transgender person. Their lively and creative work to increase understanding will be available to all during their visit to Chelan.
Roby works as a professional photographer. Dotti is a relationship coach. The couple live in Blaine Washington. After a year on the road, Dotti and Roby will finally arrive home the day after their Chelan presentation.
